I Lawyer: Ford won't change day -care statements MEMPHIS (AP) State Sen. John Ford will not change statements he made in court papers denying ownership in a state-funded day-care center, his lawyer said. "There was nothing incorrect in anything filed on behalf of Senator Ford," attorney John R. Branson said Monday. Branson's comments came in response to a letter last week from lawyer Florence Johnson, who has represented a group of day-care owners in a lawsuit against Ford and others.

Moore, preceded her in death in 1948 and 1986, respectively, along with her daughter, Mary Ann Whitaker Harris in 1986, a professor at Harding University, Seary, AR.

Mrs. Moore is survived by a son, Robert Lee Whitaker, Chairman Emeritus of Ross Bryan Associates, Consulting Engineers; daughter-in-law, Glenda Pipkin Whitaker; sister, Elizabeth Lee Smith, all of Nashville, TN; son-in-law, Jack Harris, Searcy, AR; six grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren; many dear nieces and nephews in Nashville, TN. David Allen Johnston, 32, was arrested Monday by authorities in Wayne County, Tenn. He did not fight extradition and was brought back to Huntsville Monday night, police said. He is charged with killing Kelley R. Johnston, 28, who was divorcing him. July 30, 2000 in a Williamsburg, VA. Hospital. She was born June 13,1920 in Birmingham, AL. A long time resident of Nashville, she graduated from Peabody Demonstration School and attended Vanderbilt University. Mrs.

Fleming was named as the first Woman Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Michigan, was active in assisting refugees through her church and was a Volunteer at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. She is survived by her son, Michael (Ginny) Fleming of Wake Forest, N.C.; daughters, Kellie (Larry) of Williamsburg, VA. and Stephanie (Bob) Glover of Las Vegas, her grandchildren, Bo and Tate Johnson of Williamsburg, Jennifer and Betsy Fleming of Durham, N.C. Visitation will be at Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3, 2000 from 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Age 81. Sunday, July 30, 2000 at his residence. A former resident of Ordway Place. He was born October 3, 1918 in Muskogee, OK, a son of the late James Angus Wingate, Sr. and Margia Love Wingate.

Mr. Wingate was a pacifist in Civilian Public Service during World War I1. He moved to Nashville, TN after the war and worked as an accountant and later as credit manager with the former Kirkpatrick Lumber Company until his retirement. He served his fellow man for many years through his involvement in organizations including Manna, Fellowship For Reconciliation, American Red Cross, and Children's Literacy Program. He was a member of a bicycing club, The Nashville Wheelmen.

He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church, where he sang in two Church Choirs for many years and was also a former Sunday School Treasurer. Surviving are daughters, Suzi W. Touzel, Georgetown, SC, Patty L. Wingate and her husband, William Higginbotham, Knoxville, TN; sister, Mary W. Hemrick, Baldwin City, KS; grandsons, Jeremy S.

Touzel, James T. Touzel, both of Columbia, SC, Alex W. Higginbotham, Knoxville, TN. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn Blanton Wingate. At his request, his body was donated to the Vanderbilt University School Of Medicine.
