Enjoy "The Process". For a long time, I saw value in acquiring skills exclusively as a result-oriented objective. "I need to learn x, so I can do y." That's an unrewarding perspective on learning. This brings me to topics like #leetcode, #AdventOfCode, and #CSES. I enjoy problem-solving, I enjoy getting better at the profession I chose, and then fell in love with. If you feel like you HAVE to get good at leetcode, #algorithms, or #data #structures to get a job in the market, at least try to reframe your perspective so that the journey is enjoyable, not a grind.And lastly, run your own race. If you set a goal to become good at something, and you are going to do the work to get good at it, then just run your own race. Stop using other people as a barometer for your success. YOU said you value this thing. YOU said you want to be good at it. So don't worry about who else may be better than you at it, just do the work to fulfil the goals you set for yourself.

One of the best-kept secrets in #software #engineering is that the most-rewarding #industrial #automation workflows are very similar to #embedded development. It's awesome to see the excitement in the eyes of smart, young developers when they realize they can control the physical world on a massive scale; that there is more to a career in software than bright colors on a website or making mobile widgets.

I keep in touch with some guys from my old "#Navy #Nuke Glory Days". Over the weekend, Scott "Muy Guapo" Morris (Scott Morris) sent me a text telling me what I meant to him. We weren't "door-kickers" or "tip of the spear", but it's a hard thing when you #EAOS from an environment like a submarine Engine Room where you've developed deep relationships with good men. And this isn't a #military only thing. We live increasingly siloed lives where instant-access to entertainment and various technologies separate us from real human experiences with other people. It doesn't feel like you're told in high school, college, or the military (or at least I didn't internalize it) that this cohesiveness won't always be there, that these experiences are fleeting. Scott's message was a reminder for me to be a better student of the phrase "Brother's Keeper".

It feels like an insane world that I have to even ask this question: do any of my connections that use Windows 10 in VM's have a preferred vendor they buy Windows 10 licenses from? Microsoft won't sell direct and they are telling their "Trusted Partners" not to sell Windows 10 licenses also. Thank you.#Windows #Licenses #Windows10
