Question about English (US)

B: Well, I don’t remember how many rare dishes there were, but I know I tasted "zabuton,” "chateaubriand," and a lot of different kinds of lean meats. Oh, and guess what? I learned the differences between different types of tongue.
A: Expensive tongue is very tasty, right?!
B: Well, before this experience I had only had tongue that was served paper-thin. But at this restaurant, the tongue they served was quite thick, probably around a centimeter to a centimeter and a half in thickness. It had to be cut with scissors, which was a first for me.
A: Ahahahahaha!
B: I thought, "What the heck are these scissors for?!" and then I understood that I had to cut it by myself. That blew my mind. They had prepared the meat to this point, but how it was cooked was my job. And then when I tried to grill the pieces they didn’t cook quickly or thoroughly because they were so thick. Thinner and cheaper tongue seems to cook quicker. Also, I didn't know how long they needed to be grilled for, so I ate them when I thought they were finished. However, the pieces weren’t cooked well at all and they were rubbery. Even still, the tongue was tasty because it seemed luxurious.
